I've decided to set some Greek reading goals for myself for the next two months. If anyone wants to keep up, I'll share my texts. Let me know. For this round I'm going to focus on narrative or narrative-like (the Shepherd of Hermas is apocalypse, but it and Revelation read like narratives sometimes, do they not?) texts.
- Protoevangelium of James - I'm already almost half way done with this one. I just read chapters 11 and 12 tonight. So all I have to do is finish it.
- Pseudo-Apollodorus 1.1.1 - 1.6.3 - I have seen this selection entitled "Theogony, the Rape of Persephony, and the Battle of the Gods and the Giants". Greek mythology stuff, compiled sometime around the 1st or 2nd centuries A.D.
- Roman Antiquities by Dionysius of Halicarnassus, Book 1, chapters 9-13.
- Josephus' War of the Jews - At least part of the section about Titus' conquest of Jerusalem.
- The Shepherd of Hermas, Visions 1 and 2
- Strabo, Geography, Book 8, chapters 1-2
Any suggestions for other texts of this sort? I am looking for Koine-era non-biblical (so neither NT or LXX) texts specifically. I guess there are a number of pseudepigraphical works I could choose from. Anyway, suggestions are welcome.
