Scribe Leo And The Nike Swoosh

Here's another ligature, comin' at ya fast! This one is from Codex Hierosolymitanus. Here are ye ligatures of the day.

Any ideas?

Well, since you asked, that swoosh is a ligature for ας for Leo. Here is the text for the words:

  1. αντιμισθιας
  2. υμας
  3. ημας

And so now you know. Aren't you glad?

Didn't get these at all. Have to review the previous material again. I have a rather beefy- looking manager named Leo, and I now picture him bent over a podium with quill in hand when I read these posts. Either him or DeCaprio.

So this is the codex Archbishop Bryiennos brought to the world's attention, isn't it? I was reading about the Didache this afternoon and noted the scribe was named Leon and had lots of abbreviations. It dawned on me yours must be the same manuscript as our Didache source. Great story about that manuscript. As for deCaprio, think how earnest a scribe he would be, gazing off into the distance soulfully between writing. He might almost make textual criticism hip.
