Delphi, classically famous home of an oracle to Apollo, is a sight to see in person. A few weeks ago my wife and I spent a few hours there. Since we were already tired from hiking in Meteora and it was rather warm, the trek wasn’t particularly easy. But the ruins…the ruins were awesome.

The previous night, Dan and I had stayed up checking manuscript images and burning DVDs. By the time the sun was up, I was exhausted. Regardless, it was a great day for a road trip. I could sleep on the way, after all. There were three candidates for this road trip: hit a Greek island or two, travel the Peloponnese or go north for Meteora. Going to the islands held a risk, in that a problem getting back to the mainland might mean missing our flights early morning Tuesday. As for the other two, I had no strong feelings.
Snatching a little time on the intertubes from an unsecured linksys router while sitting at an ice cream store that has fantastic sweets. Over my left shoulder rises the cliffs of Meteora here in northern Greece. The bottoms are lit by lights below, though the heights are obscured in darkness. Beautiful site. Will blog about today's adventures when I get home tomorrow. Never know when I'll lose my connection here.
I was up all last night. I was either verifying manuscript images or burning dvd's of them. We got the work done. Yay! But I'm beat.
Day 13: Finishing Manuscript Photography at the National Historical Museum

There. I said it. You now know where we've been photographing for the last three days. But I wasn't the first to spill the beans. We have been at the National Historical Museum. They were very gracious to us, bringing us drinks without our asking and doing whatever they could to make this thing go well.

I made it to the bookstore again today (the really cool one I mentioned yesterday) and got the bibliographic information for the book.
Day 11: Manuscript Photography Day 1

The day began earlier than the last several since we are on a schedule today. I woke at 7:00 and we left around 8:15 to head to the institution at which we will be photographing for the next three days. We got there without a hitch.
Monday is a holiday here in Greece, so everything in closed. Restaurants, grocery stores...whatever. Since we did not have anything planned for this day and could not get started on anything big on Tuesday (day 10) because of day 11's activities, both of these days became general work days. I continued work on the website while others did other sundry tasks.
Easter celebrations actually began on day 7 at 11:30 PM, but since that post was long enough and most of this was technically on day 8, I will just start it here.
Day 7: Road Trip to Sounion!

Day 7 was indeed a day of epic proportions. It was our first day off, so the roomie (Garrett) and I jumped in our little car and went on a road trip to Cape Sounion, a place I have wanted to go ever since I saw Buist Fanning's pictures of it several years ago (thanks!).
Since Easter is coming up in a few days, we have been unable to get to various places and see various people on these days. Since that was the case we stayed around our temporary living quarters and did some work.
Thus begins the epic saga of the Greece trip, day 4, Wednesday Apr 15.
Greece Trip Day 3: The Paleographer

Today we headed out around 9:00 to Athens. We had a meeting at 10:30 (ish...anyway) with Agamemnon at the National Bank Cultural Foundation Center for History and Paleography...
Greece Trip Day 2: Manuscript Business in Athens

Thankfully, day 2 began late, giving us plenty of rest after the first day of travel. Normally the day will begin around 8, but today began at 10, at least for me. The others got up earlier but nobody woke me, so I was awakened by Dan at 10 who said it was time to leave. This wake up was a mixed blessing: Bad because a) I had apparently not finished sleeping and b) I was dreaming about eating delicious BBQ. It was nice, though, because I was eating BBQ in only my pajama bottoms at a relative's house on Sunday morning at 9:45 when I realized that I was late to the Sunday School class (which starts about that time). And I was teaching that day. Fortunately, Dan woke me up right after this revelation. It saved me a measure of stress.

You are getting this on day 2...but I was tired and decided not to stay up and post this. But regardless, here is day 1!
Getting Ready for My First Greek NT Manuscript Photography Expedition

My first Greek New Testament manuscript photography expedition begins tomorrow. The trip will last from the 11th to the 28th, 17 days of awesomeness. The entire expedition will take place in Greece though all of the places we will go is still an unknown. I am going with the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts, about which many who read this blog are already familiar.
